EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IN TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Final year high school student mentoring
Created by ESSEC in 2002, the "A grande école: Why not me?” programme (PQPM) focuses on high school students from underprivileged backgrounds, promoting further education studies sometimes perceived as reserved for young people from more privileged backgrounds. Through student mentoring, this initiative offers high school students additional training which includes:
- the development of cultural and social capital and a critical mind,
- the development of self confidence and comfortable oral expression
- improved knowledge of enterprise, jobs and industries
- work experience in a team
- the acquisition of tools and methodologies to improve performance,
- building up a network of relationships.
The task of ESSEC students who participate in this programme is to encourage the high school students to continue their learning. Thanks to our tutors, the young people in our programme are shown a path which they did not know was an option for them.
Today, more than forty grandes écoles in France have set up these kinds of programmes, essentially within the Conférence des Grandes Écoles. Since October 2007, the “Second Circle” events, open to all interested students from high schools working in partnership with ESSEC, have brought together between 300 and 500 high school students.
